APPRENTICESHIPS SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP

The Apprenticeship Special Interest Group is Chaired by Kirsty Haylock from Hewland Engineering.

A major remit of the BGA is to ensure that manufacturing skills are maintained in the UK.

A survey of and subsequent meeting with BGA Members on the UK Skills gap in the Gear Industry highlighted the increasing difficulty in recruiting well trained staff. This lack of skilled personnel is putting significant stress on BGA Members across the board and the BGA have initiated an Apprenticeship Special Interest Group to help address this.

The current aims of the group are:

a)      Identify skills shortages relevant to BGA Members in the UK

b)     Collaborate with established STEM Ambassador Network organisations

c)      Promote existing apprenticeships

d)     Help members incorporate apprenticeship programmes into their organisation

e)     Identify holes in current apprenticeships and create modules to cover the gaps

f)       Supply BGA courses to training providers to cover the relevant modules

g)      Find and secure any government funding for apprenticeships

If you would like to join this group or need any help navigating the Apprenticeship programmes in the UK please contact us admin@bga.org.uk.
