The British Gear Association (BGA) is dedicated to promoting the UK Gear Industry. We play a key role in encouraging and facilitating Technical Research. In the fast-paced world of gear manufacturing, staying ahead through innovation is crucial. By funding smaller projects and promoting collaboration between industry and academia, the BGA not only advances technology but also helps its members remain competitive.
BGA's Initiatives for Collaborative Research
The BGA acts as a catalyst, providing seed funding and resources to support Gear research projects, ensuring that our Members can innovate and enhance their capabilities.
We encourage Members to propose projects that could lead to significant advancements in Gear Technology. The Association offers funding between £5,000 and £10,000 for accepted projects. By fostering small-scale projects, the BGA promotes creativity, which can lead to larger collaborative research.
If you have a project idea and are looking for support please contact the BGA via email at admin@bga.org.uk.
Spotlight on a Successful Project: Non-Involute Gear Testing
In 2024, the BGA funded a noteworthy project on “Non-Involute Gear Testing” by Member company Dontyne Gears. This project gained significant attention during the GEARS 2024 conference. Attendees showed great interest in the insights it offered, highlighting the need for comprehensive reports on research processes and findings.
The positive feedback demonstrated the industry’s eagerness to explore innovative ideas. Recognising this demand, we have teamed up with Dontyne Gears to host a Virtual Member Focus Session on March 19, 2025, from 14:00 to 15:00.
During this session, led by Mike Fish from Dontyne Gears, participants will receive detailed information about the project’s timeline, key findings, and their implications for the gear industry. This event is a prime opportunity for members to engage with new research and consider how it may influence their work.
