Thank you to all those who attended the Technical Awareness Day at Design Unit, Newcastle on 26th September and braved the persistent rain on route to get to there!
After a small delay starting, awaiting everyone to navigate the weather, the day started with informative presentations from the Design Unit team.
The Design Unit was established over 50 years ago and offers activities such as:
· Instrumentation for in-service loads
· Noise and vibration analysis
· Transmission design and testing
· Material Performance Testing
· Heat treatment & material research
· Gear stress analysis, design and manufacture
· Bearing analysis and testing
· Failure analysis
· Operating the National Gear Metrology Laboratory (NGML)
· Bespoke test rig design and manufacture
Delegates then enjoyed small group rotational tours of the facilities including metrology, materials testing and failure samples.
Delegates also raved about the cracking lunch the Design Unit provided, supplied by Copper Ricebox.
BGA Admin managed to capture photos of our Chair David Radley giving the food a thumbs up! 😊
There was plenty time in the agenda for business to business networking too.
It was lovely once again to meet delegates in person, especially after continual engagement in online training – it’s great to put a face to all the names.
Thank you all for making this day so successful. Our thanks go to the extended Newcastle University Design Unit team who worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality.
Brian Shaw, Design Unit, said, “Fantastic day sharing discussions on mechanical power transmissions with BGA members. The Design Unit team enjoyed demonstrating our excellent facilities and exploring ideas for future collaboration. Looking forward to some exciting new research projects!”
