Accuracy & Quality runs through their family veins.
On 20th June, the BGA had the pleasure of being hosted by Reliance Precision in their state-of-the-art facilities in Huddersfield for a BGA Technical Awareness Day.
You will have already heard about the fantastic AGM meeting, hosted in the morning but we’d love to share with you more details about what we learnt during the fabulous factory tour after lunch in the afternoon.
We received a detailed presentation of the company history by new CEO David Jennings, who has been in post for 3 months but it could have easily been 3 years with his unwavering enthusiasm for sharing the company’s roots.
It is clear to me that Reliance Precision has an amazing culture that runs seamlessly through the fabric of the building and every staff member. People are at the heart of everything the company does. Reliance’s book of Principles is given to all employees and contains its company’s values. It is the most unique booklet I have ever seen in my working career. No wonder the staff look so happy to be working there, their staff retention is great and the grow your own apprenticeship scheme is second to none.
We got to see all areas of the factory including bespoke IT systems for managing product workflow, monitoring KPIs and procedural step by step videos for quality inspection. As someone with a Product Management Degree I was engrossed in seeing how the products progress through the various stages of production. Not only this – the optimum use of factory floor space was like a game of Tetris to help them expand and grow.
With the ability to machine to a tolerance of 2 microns – that’s extreme accuracy in anyone’s mind. There’s no room for error. I felt truly humbled to have been invited to take part in the tour. What a special company doing great things. I look forward to hopefully being able to share with the wider membership by inviting Reliance Precision to host a Virtual Member Focus Session perhaps… I can ask the question for sure 😊….
We’re really looking forward to Reliance hopefully being able to host our new Gear Cutting course practical sessions when the training machines are able to be placed in situ. Watch this space…
